Description

Manufactured from specially treated fire resistant cloth filled with a mixture of mineral fibres, non-combustible bulking agents, intumescent expansion product and other fire retardant additives. When exposed to heat from a fire they will expand to form a tight seal against the passage of fire and smoke.

Benefits

Tested to BS 476 Part 20

In excess of 2 hour fire resistance

Can be moulded to fit irregular apertures

Economical - available in 4 standard sizes

 Easy to install

Suitable for temporary or permanent firestopping

Application

The pillows can be used as a temporary or permanent fire barrier in trunking and cable trays, they can also be used to fill small gaps around services where access is required for maintenance or where services are continually being modified, such as telephone exchanges and computer rooms.

Availability

The pillows are available in 4 standard sizes:

 Large  300mm x 200mm x 35/40mm
 Medium  300mm x 150mm x 35/40mm
 Small  300mm x 100mm x 35/40mm
 Trunking  300mm x 50mm x 35/40mm

NB: all dimensions are nominal compressed size.

Installation

Before installation the pillow should be patted down to evenly distribute its contents. The pillow should be installed so that the longest dimension forms the depth of the seal and all joints should be staggered. In trunking the pillow should be placed on top of the cables and should fit the trunking but allowing for free air movement so as not to impair the rating of the cables.

If installing pillows in a floor opening it will be necessary to use a mesh support. The mesh can be easily fitted to the soffit around the penetration, this provides support for the pillow under normal condition and during a fire. A second mesh is recommended to be fitted over the top of the penetration to protect the pillows against unauthorised removal.

Health And Safety

Care should be taken to avoid puncturing the pillow as dust generated may cause irritation to skin or eyes. Wear gloves and dust mask if handling damaged pillows. Keep out of reach of children.

Normal good industrial and personal hygiene practise should be observed.
